During conversations about housing with hapū and whānau connected to marae, the question of how to build on Māori land is frequently occurring.
Tangata whenua have land but cannot build on it because most banks will not lend on multi-owned Māori land, Govt red tape or the Council hoops and that have to be jumped through are too complicated and costly. Whānau want to get back on the land quickly and cost-effectively.
With a lot of research, government department meetings and piecing the jigsaw pieces of red-tape together, we are pleased to present some helpful information for Papakāinga housing development.
